Monitoring the use of high visibility safety vests by employees when they are in the area of tram tracks

In February 2023, the Cherepovets tram depot implemented EYECONT video analytics system developed by Mallenom Systems.

The system provides automated monitoring of compliance with occupational health and labor safety regulations in urban electric transport for the use high visibility safety vests and specialized jackets by employees who are present at the depot tracks.

The EYECONT software has been installed on the on-premises server and it performs analysis of the video streams from cameras in real time. When setting up the software, the zones of tram tracks for detection were preliminarily marked in the frame. When person appears in the zone, EYECONT detects the presence of a high visibility safety vest/jacket. If there is absence of required safety clothing, the software records violation in the alarm log and sends a notification to the Telegram chat bot.

The system works with cameras that were previously installed at the facility and used for video surveillance. The distance between the cameras and controlled object exceeds 60 meters. With such optical layout, the minimum size of a person in the frame is 10 by 30 pixels on average which creates challenging conditions for the operation of the video-analytical module. The adaptation of EYECONT software algorithms carried out by specialists from Mallenom Systems has helped to overcome this limitation. As a result, the system has reached the desired level of accuracy and it is actively being used for industrial health and safety monitoring by the Cherepovets tram depot.
