The engineers at Mallenom Systems have been tasked to create the system for tracking cylindrical industrial billets which are used in the heavy engineering for manufacturing parts and components. In this particular case, the use of any identification marking was not possible since these billets are treated at high pressure and temperature. For this reason, the identification system based on the “papillary” lines which occur at the ends of material blanks during radial forging has been developed. The pattern of these lines is unique for each billet and it allows to definitively identify the object.
